Ripoff, CAMCO sent a letter saying i owed 1,216.96 from a visa card i never had, said in the end they would settle debt for 199.00

I recieved a letter in the mail today and opened it to find an attempt to collect a debt of 1,216.96. I called the 877 number to find out what the debt was for. A mr trevor jackson said it was for a visa card from 1991.

I told him i had never had a visa card in 1991 from the particular bank he mentioned, in fact i didn't even have a credit card at all at that time. He assured me he was not trying to upset me, and said we could ettle this without me getting upset, i am on disability and also have a heart condition at 47.

Bottom line he went from asking for 1200 some $ to 199.00 all i had to do is give him 4 post dated checks of 50.00 each and we would avoid litigation.
