ICKY Policy

I know everyone is having credit card issues — but for some reason this surprised me. I have had and ATT Visa for 20 years — my interest rate went up to about 17% with out me knowing. When I called to check on this — they explained that I had a payment that came in 1 day late — so my account went into default and they raised my rate to the highest one they could charge. CRAZY!!! How is this legal? It's such an icky thing to do. I told them that i was going to cancel — so they reduced to 11%..
