MWI Homeworks Plus DealPass.com And MWI Privacy Plus ripoff Unauthorized Credit Card Charges in exchange for Nothing Received

I was billed $1.00 by Privacy Plus on 08/05/03 and $14.95 on 09/05/03 by Homeworks Plus. I called to ask who and what they were on 09/06/03. I was told by Homeworks that each $20.00 gift certificate I purchased would merit me a $5.00 credit. She said that Privacy Plus was a different concern and she knew nothing about their services or products. I told them I was not interested and was aware of their many consumer complaints and that legal action (s) had been filed.

They then offered me $60.00 in rebates to "continue my membership". I told them that I was not willing to pay to be a member of something that hadnt provided me with so much as a bulk email in the month that they claimed me as a member. They stated that I must have mistaken the membership mailing (sent via USPS per the agent) for junk mail and disposed of it. I told her that I look over all my mail, I have received nothing from them. She said she would send it with my rebates. I repeated that I was uninterested in retaining their services since they had provided me with nothing of value and did not want their rebates.

I was promised a full refund of the Homeworks charge within 24 to 48 hrs, but that I might see 2 to 3 more charges before my membership was updated. I told them I would not see more charges because I would go to my bank on Monday and have them flagged as unauthorized charges. She said I could try. I asked for a confirmation # and was told that their agent number is my confirmation number. Apparently, all 'members' who speak to Michell get the same confirmation number! She then connected me to Privacy Plus for information on my 'membership' with them.

A brief aside, when they connect you, there is no longer any hold music, just a painfull high-pitched feedback. I hung up on it the first time and called back. I mentioned that the agent had tried to connect me to Privacy Plus but had connected me to feedback instead, a small laugh was the only reply as the feedback started again but I was connected.

Privacy Plus stated they provided legal representation and unlimited credit reports (Equifax). They said they had no record of me, other than the Homeworks membership, which showed up as having been cancelled, so they could not refund the $1.00. I informed the agent that the charge was billed on my statement as Privacy Plus. I was told that charge would be refunded by Homeworks as they were "all the same anyway and whoever keyed it in had selected the wrong company name to bill under". I'll update when and if the charges are refunded.
