Unauthorized credit inquiries

Initially USA has run 8 unauthorized credit questions on me previously 12 weeks. That are they and just why are they achieving this? I've noticed allot of additional questions on many sites about them carrying this out to a lot of others It's injured my credit score. I've not requested a charge card or mortgage.
