Ripoff, bad customer service and don't speak good english

I had a card through providian getsmart and i really enjoyed the service in which i got. One day i get a card from Emerge to replace providian. Then I receive a bill with an annual fee charge that I had just paid Providian just a month or so before.

I called Emerge and was told that they are not the same company and I would have to pay it again. Much to my protest i paid the charge. Next thing I know my balance doesn't seem to be going down. I pay the same amount every month and cut up my card over six months ago.

Just last month I received a bill that was very confusing to me. I called the customer number and was transferred six different times. Then I get someone who could hardly speak any english.

I argued with the man because it showed me paying a total of three payments and not getting credit for the third. He explained to me that there was insuffienct funds in my checking account which I knew was not true. I asked for the batch number where they got the payment electronically from my checking account and he said he couldnt give that to me.

I asked him what his name was and who what the number was to the corporate office so I could contact them and he said that I was talking to the right number. I then asked for his supervisor and conveniently he or she was not working.

I want to close the account because I was slammed to emerge but cannot afford to pay off the account in full. Nor is there an internet site in which I can check the balance or pay on the account on line.

I dont believe that they had the right to sell my account from Providian or that Emerge had the right to buy my account without my permission.
