My husband had purchased a trailer before we were together. When we met green tree had purchased his loan and the nightmare began.
We get about 3 statements a year (they refuse to provide a payment book, they say that is not how they do business). I make my payment on time with or without a bill. Although I have found out by the state attorney general if you do not provide a book then you must provide a monthly bill. The interest rate is 11.75%. I have asked several times about a rate redution and they laugh and tell you that do not have to do a rate reduction, and wont, the what is amazeing is the next month they will loose your check or somehow get it very, very late.
They never got our payment on time. I went so far as to everymonth I mail it return reciept requested. It is always recieved a minimum of 2 days early never more than 2 days after the due date (by their own rules you have a 15 day grace period).
Last summer in May I mailed in a payment that they lost (one of the many they have lost over the last 5 years with me). They call and want me to immediately issue them more money, a $12 to $15 over the phone check fee (its never the same), and a late charge. What is great is every time in the past I have done this but this time I had just quit my job since my husband got relocated, and I was ill and less than 24 hours out of the hospital and out of it myself. I was told that there would be no further late charges if I agreed to pay $50 extra a month untill I get cought up. I agree and set up 3 automatic withdraws. At the time I tell the man that the ammount he is giving me seems way to low. He tells me he checks and that he is correct and that because I am not feeling well I must be mistaken (stupid me believes him, that is how ill I was). Well 4 months later I get a bill showing us over $650 behind in payments (we started at $400).
I call green tree to see what has happened. Well the ammount that was set up was wrong by $75, because of insurance and the two free months that you get each year with their insurance. Well in the mean time I had gotten new insurance (and yeah you guessed it nobody said that we were going to now get charged the $75 per month for the two free months when we changed, I am so sure it just slipped their mind, just like the people that call can see what your bill is either.) With late fees, missed payemts (due to them screwing up), and all the other things they dream up to stick you with. We get it I think cleared up and I again agree to pay 3 more withdraw payments $50 extra after the $200 that I pay that day, and I should have it fixed right after the first of the year. Wrong we were in December I get a call stating that we are going to have the home repossessed for being about $1000 behind. Needless to say I freak out, yeah again they "made a mistake of over 100 a month in our bill and just cant figureout why and I should magically make it apper".in the mean time I have gotten zero, nana, none, zippo in the way of bills from them. I tell them to fine come repo it, and that I know it will not happen tomorrow and that they are breaching their own contract with me so "if you feel froggie jump" and get it done. That day I write a letter to green tree telling them that they need to stop the harassing phone calls (yeah I would get over 30 a day, and they would deny it yet I had their messaged and they were after 9pm too). I found that on the BBB and the federal trade commission where I have the right to in writing (which I did) to ask them to stop calling. I got a letter back stating that they would continue to call and that they did not care what the laws are they will not stop and that they did not make the mistake I did for agreeing to what they tell me. Its hard to find out what the true bill is when you hardly ever get one. My husband asked for a copy of all that had been paid and his contract. Yeah he never got that form the letter either. I accidently talked to a decent rep. With them and she sent a copy. I am sure she lost her job after that.
I also find it funny that when I get a New Mexico number I always talk to people in Arizona, I am still confused how that could happen but I guess it works for thm. I was getting threatened daily by one of their reps wantin the lasat $50 early, and I would not budge. I was fighting since I quit the automatic withdraws and I would send in my payments by return reciept. They would get the payment say on the 2,3 or 4th. My payment is due by the 4th (mind you I have a 15 day grace period so as long as they have it by the 19th I am ok). Well it would go thru my bank say on the 13 (many times much later) and they would charge me a late fee. Well I fought over that and was told that they do not sign the return reciept that somebody random at the post office signs them and it takes them sometimes weeks to get the mail (yeah right sorry I dont buy it). Well I then get transfer to a person (I think that is what you call him) and he tells me that I am sending my payment to the wrong place. I give him the address on my bill and he tells me that is the wrong address that I have to send it to Pheonix. I ask him when it changed I get told I am stupid and that I dont know where to send my payment. I ask him if the payment goes to Phoenix why the bill tells me somepleace else. He cant tell me that customer service must tell me that. So I ask him "Is this the racket you run having customers send their payments to the wrong address so that it gets sent around, then becomes lost, or late. That is a great racket and green tree has it down". He become irate and tells me that I am stupid and I am not listening. I am listening just fine I just want to know how the payment adress can change and the update can not be noted on the bill. He hung up on me when I asked for his supervisor.
I called customer service and asked why the bill has the incorrect payment address on it. I give the rep my information and the address for the bill and he tells me that is the correct address. I then tell him what happened and the man is shocked and tells me that is not correct that I am. I ask for his supervisor and ask the same question and get the same answer. I then ask for the man's supervisor that gave me the wrong information. I not only got his name but his direct line. I called and complaines (not that I think it helped but I felt better).
That is just the tip of the issues I have had with them and they dont care they just keep on being as crooked as ever. If I could refinance I would in a heart beat even at the interest rate we have if I could deal with a ligit company.
