Collection Letters on a Bogus 12-Year-Old Sprint Debt

Last year my boyfriend started getting collection notices out of the blue from one collection agency after another about a bogus debt from 12 years ago (supposedly a sprint bill from when he was a minor - he's puzzled).

We filed with the BBB for each and every notice that has come in and they all dropped it immediately and returned the debt to the holder - Resurgent Capital Services.

We are now getting letters from Resurgent demanding payment on this debt and stating that it's a real debt (a response to a BBB complaint we filed against them this time). I'm annoyed with this nonsense and want it to stop.

My boyfriend has checked and it is not on his credit report and he thinks we should just ignore it since it's obviously a fraud. I don't know if that's the right course of action? We've filed with various BBB's before. Should we do more. Or is ignoring this obvious bullsh* the way to go. I really don't want to waste anymore of our time on this if I don't have to.

Is there a specific course of action we can take to make this paper trail of nonsense end?
