CBCS Scam File a BBB report. I have a question

Early to Mid last month my boyfriend recieved a letter from CBCS claiming he owed $150 (settlement offer) on a debt he supposedly had 12 years ago. He called up the company and was greeted by an unhelpful and snide "customer service agent" who claimed the burden of proof was on him, he has to pay this (said more then several times). They agent also had his social security number. My boyfriend, getting nowhere, ended up hanging up on him.

Once he got me involved I looked up the history of this company online and registered a complaint with the BBB. CBCS almost immediately closed their account (surprise surprise) and said they are returning the debt to its original company — Resurgent Capital Services. We recieved a letter in the mail from them stating this.

Upon doing research here I have learned that 1. CBCS and Resurgent Capital Services are the same company! (how are the going to "return" the account if its the same damn company - does this mean we'll be hearing about this debt again. This time under the letter head Resurgant?) 2. Around the same time we received the letter many others also did claiming similar debts from 12 years ago (as posted on this site).

His complaint with the BBB is still open pending our response. Considering i'm sure its a fraud I dont know how to respond to the BBB now. I feel they should be doing more to stop this — I would hate innocent people to actually fall prey to this. I am also wary of how they obtained my boyfriends SS number. How should we respond now to the BBB? I am considering sending them the link to this page.

Oh and btw... To all those who are first researching this fraud. Contact the BBB and file a report. Get it in writing & check your credit report.
