NHALP took our money and were never heard from again... Nearly lost our home

In Sept., my husband and I had fallen on hard times. We were making our mortgage payments, but only by borrowing most of it from kind relatives each month. We realized we could not continue on this path so when we got a call from a man named Shaun at NHLAP, it was like we could breathe again. He told us that we could get our mortgage modified to better fit our financial situation and they would take care of all the negotiations. We were pleased to think there was something we could do. I went on the internet and went to their web page, it looked good. Then of course I looked around to see if anything was coming up negative regaurding them... There wasn't anything at this point. We signed all the paperwork, which included the contract stating they would refund us if they couldn't get the modification. They required a payment of $2495.00 to start the process and they needed it within 7 days. Once again we borrowed the money and paid them.
Then we didn't hear from them for a few weeks, called and were told things were in the works, looking good and not to call our mortgage company. We were told to stop making our payments so it would look better and help prove our hardship. We did what they said, we were desperate. Then we recieved a letter from our mortgage company stating that our modification request had been denied. We called NHLAP to get our money back and they said that it was fine, this was only the first try and it could take several to come to an agreement with the mortgage company. Don't worry, they said. We agreed to give them a few more weeks on the condition that they give us weekly updates by phone.
We never heard from them again. Forclosure proceedings were filed against us and we had to borrow $15,000 to repay the mortgage company PLUS we still have a mortgage we cannot afford... They need to be prosocuted!!!
