Told me they could get the IRS off my back, and then said I had to pay anyway

I tried them to get the IRS off my back due to a $14,000 debt. They said nothing about whether the IRS would settle for a smaller amt being based on income. I thought they would fight it on the basis of its being unfair.
I lost a house in 2003 and I didn't know that gave me $50,000 income for that one year. I didn't report it, not knowing about it, so I owed $14,000.
They said to fill out all these forms, assets and liabilities, charged me a monthly fee to sit around and wait, then got back to me finally and said that I would have to pay it because I was making too much money at the time. Well, by the time they were done, I was making a lot less, so we went thru the forms again with the same results.
They are just there to do the stuff you can do on your own with little or no result. It's all based on income, and the IRS will get it anyway.
(fortunately, the IRS went back on it all last year and "undid" my debt I guess because of people all losing their homes, and they are returning what refunds they did hold back all these years. Sometimes the govt is decent!)
