Nationwide Insurance
Bad company to work for as Adjuste

Business & Finance

This is just a warning to any adjusters checking out Nationwide for future employment. I worked in that capacity for several years and found that I had only one complaint, that they never hired the full number of adjusters we were promised.in particular, our unit was always told we were supposed to have 8 adjusters and promised that every effort was being made to become fully staffed. However, after years of these empty promises, also known as lies, we all began to realize that this is, if not Company Policy, then at least Regional Policy, to never or seldom become fully staffed.

This saves the company significant dollars but creates a great deal of anger, resentment and frustration among its staff. We seldom ever had more than 5 or 6 adjusters and sometimes had as few as 1 or 2, doing the work of 8. To compound the problem, the "buddy" adjusters (those in an adjoining) territory would have to cover their neighbor's territory while out sick or on vacation. Do the math, we were working at least 12 hours per day, plus always some on the weekend and always a day or two of our vacation. This translates into at least 60 to 80 hours per week or more on average for 40 hours of pay.

Besides the frustration, this required excessively long hours to be put in by its adjusters all of whom were salaried and not paid a dime of OVERTIME! This policy had a secondary negative effect of pulling down file quality and time of settlement which caused the adjusters added stress and problems and ultimately poor or zero raises as raises were based largely on file quality. Additionally, it caused poor customer service which often translated into complaints against the adjusters.

Then, to add insult to injury, the company would periodically put such "problem adjusters" on report as a prelude to their firing based on, you guessed it, "poor attitude and/or poor file quality". Can you believe it? Well, believe it because it happened to me and several other adjusters during my time with Nationwide. If that one problem was fixed, Nationwide would be a decent company to work for with a fair work load. But that one problem caused a cascade of other problems which ultimately made this an extremely negative work environment and untenable situation.

Just a heads up to you other adjusters & stay away from Nationwide!!!
