Guaranteed Trust Lending
Sold To Countrywide Issues with mortgage companies selling YOUR mortgage without prior approval

Business & Finance

To start with, my husband and I bought our first home in 2003 under a company called Guaranteed Trust Lending. We had pretty good credit and maintained our mortgage with no issues until the second year of home ownership.in February we received a letter from GTL informing us that they had sold our mortgage to Countrywide. Note, we had not received any documentation, applications, or notices PRIOR to this action taking place. We attempted to notify the VA, as my husband is a Desert Storm combat veteran. To no avail, VA pretty much told us that since we had encountered no issues with making our payments prior to the change, then there should "be no issue".

Later in February of we recieved a letter from Countrywide informing us of "impending forclosure" supposedly for "unpaid transfer fees". Note, we had Never refinanced or taken a line of credit against our home. We had no choice but to file Chapter 13 to hold onto her. All of this because Countrywide wanted to charge us in excess of $5,000 for buying our mortgage from GTL without our knowledge or approval. Needless to say, they (meaning Countrywide) changed the terms of our loan, (from a 30 yr fixed @ 6.5% to an 20yr ARM @ 8.5%) the loan amount (adding the 5,000) and finally ADDING MY HUSBAND'S EX-WIFE to our contract. That's right! My husband's ex-wife appears on the foreclosure deed, under her maiden name, as a THIRD OWNER. Needless to say, we finally did lose the house, and this issue has cost us our marriage, but I lack the funds to locate a good attorney to help me with this, and don't even know if the statute of limitation has run out.

Mind you, we made good on the mortgage payments under the Chapter 13, but Countrywide still sent a real estate agent to our home to inform us of the finalized foreclosure on February. Not more than one year after the initial attempt at taking the house from a US Veteran and his family. As it turns out Guaranteed Trust Lending is no more. Does this stink to high heaven to any other person out there? Outraged and disgusted in NJ.
