Told I Owe $2,248 and Denied an Apartment Because of It

I am only 21yrs old and I was trying to be approved for an apt for me and my spouse and our son. Now I can't even be approved for anything because this company says I owe 2248.00, I have never even heard of this place. Can anyone help me get rid of this. I see that a lot of ppl are having this same problem. How did u get rid of it??? Can anyone help me this is so horrible what has happened to me.
