Attempted to scam me with my mortgage

I received a call from an individual stating that they were calling from "Mission Settlement Agency" even though my caller-id stated that the caller was Alpha Funding Group. The person claimed that his name was Igor Kanfer and that we had spoken about my mortgage approximately 3-6 months in the past. Being that his name was Igor, I knew that I had never spoken with him in my life. He claimed that his nickname was Gary and that we may have spoken under that pretense. He proceeded to inform me that he had my home address, social secuirty number and all kinds of personal information (which he really did) in order to establish a level of trust. I eventually believed it and asked him what he was offering. He claimed that he could lower my mortgage rate from 6.5% to 3.9%. I found it to be almost impossible but admittedly was interested. I was told that the whole process would cost $795 and that I would need to secure the process with a major credit card which I did.

The next day I check my online statement to discover that I had been charged a little under $7,000!! I immediately called Igor who claimed that it was a "simple error" and asked that I not contact the bank. Naturally, I did not listen to him and did so anyway. I was able to reverse the charges before he received my money and contacted NYPD who informed me that since he did not have my money (thanks to my swift action) I couldn't really do anything. They said they will be keeping an eye on him and that they've heard complaints in the past but the Brooklyn D.A. Is seeking enough evidence to put him away for decades instead of months. Beware if this individual or anyone from Alpha Funding Group contacts you because it is a total scam!!
