Business & Finance

I was just reading another post here about Lexington Law firm. I've been a member of theirs for a couple years now. I've paid my $59 month and I've seen items removed/deleted and my credit score appears to be moving up too. However, it's not all cherries on the top...

Since I"m trying to manage my credit and improve my score, I use an online credit checking service and monitor changes monthly and see where things are going. Lexington requires you provide them a copy of your credit report for them to verify changes. I provided them internet access to my online report to save the hassle of mailing a physical report.

They've requested my login id/pw each time I ask them to verify my credit report online, even after providing this info via email and via their online portal. I finally called in and spoke to a supervisor because it's getting a little out of hand. Lexington has no problem emailing you your login ID/PW in clear text and expects the same information back!

I explianed to the supervisor this wasn't a good idea as email can be intercepted and read. And since it's my personal information we're talking about, why would they even ask? If a stranger walked up and asked you for your name, address and social security number, would you just tell them? NO!

I then discussed the "dispute letters" being sent to the bureaus. I requested a copy once, only to find they're poorly formatted. If you were to read one, you might assume it was a letter from a consumer just demanding something be removed! Ex: dear experian, I found xyz on my report and this isn't mine. Remove it now! My social security number is xxx-xxx-xxxx. Sincerely, john doe.

Based on this info, I'd say you're just better off saving that $59 and writing your own letters! I've even received "stall" letters from bureaus because they claim the letter didn't appear to come from the consumer. They probably didn't fall for the poorly formatted letter they recieved. Can you blame them?

Bottom line: I'm going to cancel my service this month w/Lexington. There's been enough of an improvement on my credit that I won't be demanding any refunds. I suppose I've learned my lesson with all of this. I just paid for the convenience of someone else writing letters for me. - Lesson Learned.
