Of all the problems I've had with Chase bank, this one is simultaneously the simplest and most ridiculous. I have certainly had more serious problems with them, but my experience today just baffled me.

I called the 800 line (which was already in my phone as the result of a more serious problem I'd called about earlier in the week) and asked where I could find a branch near 42nd Street on the west side, in Manhattan. I was away from the computer, and thought I could find this out easily and stop by during some other errands in the workday.

The woman placed me on hold. When she came back, she asked: "You said Manhattan. Is that... in New York?"
"It's New York City, " I said, "also called Manhattan." Wow. She placed me on hold again. When she came back, she said she was showing a branch located on something called Gibbons Boulevard. I said there's no such thing, can you please give me another location? She told me that was the only one listed.

I asked her if it seemed reasonable that there was only one Chase bank location in all of Manhattan, and she reluctantly said no. I was placed on hold again, this time for quite some time. I was growing frustrated. She came back and said there was a location on 20th Avenue. I couldn't believe it. I said angrily, there's no such thing as 20th Avenue, and even if it's 20th Street, that's still twenty blocks away! Please let me speak with someone else, I said. She placed me on hold again. She then came back on and said there was nobody else who could help me, but that she had found a nearby (!) location at 51st Street and 4th Avenue. I started to explain that that address was ridiculously out of the way, but I became so angry I just hung up.

I am offended and astounded at this sort of time-wasting and idiocy. I missed my train twice over while I was on the phone waiting.
