It's a story heard all to often these days's. Lost my job in 2005. Lets just say age discrimination is alive and well. Long story short I contacted Countrywide or should I say tried to contact their "Work -Out Dept." much to my dismay there is no such beast.
I finally sent a certified letter threating to stop paying my mortage payment... Low and behold I finally got their attention. At the time I had a 30 year fixed at 5.75% with taxes and insurance included my house payment was $1368.38 a month. I requested the option to pay interest only on my current loan for a short period of time to get back on my feet. I was told that was not an option they would have to rewrite and interest only loan for 2 years. I could change the loan type at any time in that 2 year period with out penalties. Here comes the kicker my credit score at the time was 720. But because of my income they had to write 2 loans 1st at 6.75% 2nd. At 11%. My savings $100.00 per month. Desperate times we do desperate things and 100.00 was alot of money at the time. The loan would pay off my boat & 1 credit card.
Bottom line is today I have a great job been ther 15 months at last check 700 credit score, no debt but my home. Countrywide will not refi my house because it is a SUBPRIME LOAN. A loan they made subprime. Can anyone help me? I keep hearing there is a class action lawsuit against them but haven't had any luck finding any information.
