Business & Finance

During my initial conversations with the staff, it was not made clear to me what the exact procedures were and after reading the customer agreement on the website, I was slightly confused as to why I was being charged for certain items on my invoice.

The first person I spoke to was Ron, a very nice gentleman who assured me that I would get my truck back and we even went on to joke about if he needed the extra set of keys I had and his response was, Ma'am, we do this for a living, a Dodge Ram isn't a problem. He even went on to say that they should have my truck within 48 hours. That make me feel very comfortable in the fact I was dealing with professionals. Ron was very courteous and made me feel very important like I was his only customer.

After speaking with Ron, I received a phone call from Debbie who asked me if I had any paperwork or information that could help them in their search for the vehicle. I then scanned in the required documents and I e-mailed them to her that same day.in that packet were a copy of his license, the original sales paperwork, vehicle registration, insurance card, and the copy of the signed contract between me and the person I was repossesing the truck from regarding the truck.

Two days passed and I didn't hear anything back from anyone. I called Debbie to ascertain the status of my case. We discussed many things like how long it would take for my truck to be recovered etc. According to her, it would take 48 hours for the case to go to the investigator which is contradictory to what Ron told me that I would have my truck back in 48 hours. Apparently, there was a case number assigned to me I was never given this case number or any information related to my case. At this point, I was becoming very concerned.

A short time later, I received an e-mail back from Debbie telling me what my case number was and the website to view and check the status of my case. After several attempts to access this site, I couldn't get in no matter what I tried. The username and password that was supplied to me didn't work and I kept getting an invalid username or password error. I tried again the next morning and it still didn't work so I sent Debbie another e-mail telling her my username and password still didn't work. At this point, it was mid afternoon and I hadn't heard anything back so I called the National Recovery number and asked to speak with Ron. I was then connected to Dawn who told me that I couldn't speak to Ron and she was the Operations Manager and would take care of any of my problems. I informed her that I wasn't receiving any feedback regarding my case and the website not working. She then tried to set up my account and she couldn't get it work so she told me give it about 30 minutes and try it again.

Dawn told me that the investigators were looking for it but the person was not parking the vehicle at the location I previously gave to them. So, I took some personal initiative and gave Dawn all the known locations that he hangs out at and even went so far as to research and find his company's name so she could look up all information related to known work locations in Tampa. I tried the website again and I finally got in but there was no information listed on the site after Dawn told me there would be some information in there regarding my case. So I waited another day to see if it would be updated with any information, but I had already received an email stating the truck was found and it was in your company's possession. After reading the e-mail, I called and spoke to Debbie or Dawn. I told them I received an e-mail about the truck and she told me that the information I provided them was very helpful.

After receiving my final invoice, I was shocked when I saw charges for investigations both in House and Field, Towing and impound fees (I was told by Ron everything was included in the 800 dollars), and all of these checks the company did even though I provided all the information that essentially led to them finding the truck. My bill went from being 800 dollars to 2100 dollars and I had no clue what was happening. I've read and re-read the agreement on the website and it says nothing in there about paying for towing, impound fees and that I would be afforded 10 days of free storage.

The agreement states the following: Client agrees and understands that each recovery is unique and NRN LLC's "base fee" DOES NOT INCLUDE hardcore skips, investigation, fraud, identity theft, criminal enterprise, national database charges, etc., and that NRN LLC's final invoice is based upon the degree of difficulty in the recovery and the means necessary to recover your particular collateral. I understand the agreement but it was never clearly defined to me about any additional charges. I asked several questions of the staff and I never got the impression I would be paying this much.

I finally had to pay the entire invoice amount because they would not release any information to me about where the truck was being kept. I got a bad feeling about what had been going on so far and I called the man that I was supposed to be picking the truck up from Friday 6/20/08. He told me that he was in Texas and told NRC that! He then went on to tell me that they lied to him and told him that he was repossesing the truck for Suntrust not for me and if I needed to get it tomorrow that I would have to pay all his fees and a key making fee. He also told me that the individual was allowed in the truck to get his belongings out himself which I was told everything in the truck would be bagged by the people repossesing the truck and then given to him to make sure that he was not taking anything that did not belong to him. I called NRC and Tori told me that the person who had my vehicle did get paid and she would check into what was going on and call me back.

I finally called her back about 2 hours later and Rick St. Marie, the GM, answered. He kept talking over me telling me that I just didn't understand how things work and then he had the nerve to tell me that they weren't used to dealing with the general public and I asked him why there was a specific tab on their Website for private party repossesing? He screamed at me and told me that I was wasting his time.

This company displays a badge and letters of recommendation on their Website but they are clearly there to hide the festering mess that is underneath.
