Harrassment frequent calls, rude, refused to provide information, called me names

Due to current circumstances I am unable to pay a debt to Washington Mutual. I also am disputing the amount. Washington Mutual first sold the debt to Philllips & Cohen. I sent them the FTC letter and they promptly sold my account to AllianceOne. AllianceOne is amazingly rude. I already sent them a letter and they are continuing to call. Apparently, I sent it to the "wrong" address. Usually they call 4 or 5 times a day on both the home line and my cell phone for a total of 10 times a day. Today, I attempted to speak with the debt collector and get the "correct address". He refused to give it to me, called me a thief, a dead beat, a loser, a waste of humanity, etc., etc. He said, "I will not give you any information because you are a dead beat attempting to avoid paying your debt."

Well, the two of us shouted on the phone at each other for a while until I realized the absurdity of it and could hear him and others laughing in the background. Apparently he had put me on speakerphone. I gather these collectors amuse themselves by being rude and getting people angry. I hung up and called back for the address, I was hung up on again. I called back a third time and was given an address that didn't match anything I could find online. Apparently, the collectors are instructed to give misinformation.

I will resolve this directly with Washington Mutual when I am able. I will not make any payments to third party collectors. I have also started filing the on-line complaint with the FTC each time the people call. I am headed out today to send a certified, return-receipt letter requesting that AllianceOne stop all communication with me. It will be interesting to see if they sell my account to yet another company.

It is absolutely useless in attempting to speak to these people. Do not trust them. Resolve the issue directly with the company to whom you owe the debt.
