Excessive Charges for being over drawn

I used to get great service from WAMU and I used to recommend them to friends; not any more.

My son used his debit card for minimal charges at school. On 4/14 he was over drawn. Not knowing it, he then made 5 charges for amounts as little as $4.50, $750, etc; all of which did not add up to $49.

The next day, WAMU charged him $35 for EACH charge! They demanded him to cover the $165 in fees for less than $49 in charges! When I confronted the bank, the manager (Jason Kriz) didn't feel they were out of line and refused to reverse the charges (he never talked to me about it; the teller had to go back to Jason's office for approval). Based on their decision, I then told the teller that I wanted to close my account. The teller again had to get back to the managers office to sign off the closure of my account. The manager THEN came out of his office, walked up to the tellers cube, NEVER said a word to me or even looked at me; he just signed the document, and went back to his office! Now that is EXACTLY how I would never allow my employee's to handle a situation. I am the VP of Sales for a footwear company and I oversee our Customer Service department.

I am speechless (but I will type!) on how poorly Jason Kriz (branch manager) handled this situation. I suggest everyone who is thinking of banking at Washington Mutual, go elsewhere! I know other banks have the SAME features as WAMU, but I venture to bet, they would never handle this situation like WAMU did. There are too many options in banking to tolerate this form of arrogance.
