Rip off

I got the cross country card in july. I never got a bill to send a payment in the mail or i've never got a phone call. I got married and moved out of my mom's house and i still never got a statement in the mail. Until recently, i got a letter from a collection agency saying i owe cross country $548.49. I have never used the card for anything. My credit line was $300.00. After reading all the stuff i'm kinda worried about paying. Does any body have any suggestions? Do i call the collecion agency and ask for a statement? They are telling me that they are sending this notice in advance of any action by our office providing you with an opportunity to amicably settle this account.
