False Credit Claim, Wrong account numbe

Midland Credit Management, Inc. Has recently claimed that I owe them 3,782.66. Their claim is that they have purchased the debt from Bank of America. However the account number does not match with my Bank of America credit card. While I did owe Bank of America money, I have not received a statement from them stating the amount I owed. I have received several letters from various companies stating that I owe money for an account that was never mine. What should I do to dispute this claim?
