Penalty for Early Monthly Payment

I made $10.00 Monthly payment on my Target Credit Card March 1st. Payment was due on March 30th. I received a $44 Charge for paying early.
I called to get the charge removed and they would not remove it, they said would credit it to my account but I would still have to make a $44 payment instead of a $10.00 payment. I don't think I should have to make a higher payment for paying a few days early.
