Billed for service that I never even had!

Received a "Settlement Offer" in March. It read that my past due account had been placed in their office for payment and they would settle for $43.99 of the current balance if $87.98. It also stated that if I could not make the payment to call their office.
I have never been a subscriber of "AT&T Broadband LLC", the original creditor.
I will be pursuing this when I'm not at work and I am so relieved that I didn't write a check out immediately like I was going to.instead I searche AT&T Broadband and found a "scam alert" link. Thank you internet!
As far as the company goes~ I can hardly wait for my lunch hour.
