H R Block
Took my money and did nothing

Let me start off by saying that this was the first and last time that I will go to a commercial tax prep company. My wife and I had visited the local H&R Block in our area for them to answer questions about what they do as far as Tax preparation, and what their guarantees are as far as filing errors, or any mistakes that are made. They were able to answer all of our questions without any problems, and the lady that we spoke to was very nice and polite.

We made an appointment to speak with one of their "tax professionals" and have our taxes prepared. We were very impressed with the professionalism and patience of this individual, her name was Eliane.

As soon as we were done, she said that she would recommend that we get the protection that they have for any errors that were done, and what it would cover. We did as we thought that this would be a good idea to have.

Fast forward 1 month later. We had selected direct deposit for the tax payment, federal came in the mail (OK, no big deal), the state sends a letter saying that there is an error on the medical payments. I explained to my wife that it was OK, we have their guarantee, and it states that if they make an error, they will pay the amount that they explained that we were owed, if there was a difference due to their error.

We later spoke to Pat, (the manager of the location), and had explained our situation. She said she must speak to the tax preparer first. We get a call back and an explanation that it was your error, you had too many receipts, and I might have gotten confused, you know its gets confusing, if there was an error, I dont know what to tell you. First off I could not believe that the "tax professional" could not add up receipts, and second that the guarantee that I was sold would not cover me.

I had called the customer service number for H&R Block, and spoke to a service rep by the name of Kelvin, and explained that I wanted to speak to a supervisor in regards to a complaint about one of the local offices. He proceeded to laugh at me and say that there were over 200 people on his floor, and that his supervisor was nowhere to be found, she may be on the other side of the building. I can take your information and someone will call back in about a week. NOT acceptable I explained to him, I wanted to speak to someone directly, can you give me their direct line? Again laughed at he said that we can go back and forth all night. Second time pissed me off, and after waiting on hold for over 10 minutes, he transferred me to a Ms. Evans, and I have yet to hear back from her.

Its nice that a company will take your money, and promise the world, but when it comes time to live up to what they say, no one wants to talk to you and you get the run around.

Do yourself a favor, save some money and get your taxes done the right way the first time, go to an accountant, buy a computer program (preferably not the H&R Block one), but what ever you do, DO NOT USE THESE PEOPLE, they don't have a clue!!!
