I am EXTREMELY upset... I sent in a large payment of $1,600.00 to lower my balance because I was planning on making a large purchase on my credit card. Providian was quick in accepting my payment but immediately after posting my large payment, they froze my account, lowered my credit line from $3,500.00 to $2,000.00 and raised my interest rate to 30%!!!
I only realized this as I logged on to their website and found that my available credit was $24.00 (when I was expecting it to be over a $1,000.00). I immediately called customer service to tell them that there was a mistake with my credit line. They explained that there was no mistake... My credit line went from $3,500.00 to $2,265.00 to $2,572.00. He couldn't explain why, how or anything. All he could say was that a letter was sent explaining everything and if I didn't receive it they could re-send it. I asked to speak to a supervisor but of course they were not available but "would call me back by the end of the day." I did not receive a call back.
At this point, I am out $1,600.00 and forced with trying to get a credit line increase from my other credit cards to try and pay this off. Upon reviewing this website I realized that unfortunately, I am not alone in this scam!
