TD Banknorth
Overdrafted check even though I made a deposit

Business & Finance

I have had this account for about a month. I was initially going to use another bank, however, TD Banknorth was open on a Saturday, so I opened a checking account.

I had an overdraft fee assessed a few weeks after the account was open, which part of it was my fault (I didn't add up debits correct in my register) and the other was the fact that they assesed me for all my uses at other banks ATMS in one shot. I was also never told how much they charged me to order checks, so when I got my statement, it was much less than I had figured out.
So I wrote a check on tuesday, as I usually get my pay on thursdays. The mail was delayed for MLK Day, and when I checked my account balance on friday night (at 11:15 pm), it had not hit my account.

Now, when I had the earlier overdraft, I was told by one of their Customer Service Reps that if something posts to my account that will overdraw me, then I will have until 7pm that day to make a deposit, and I would not be assessed an overdraft fee.

So Saturday, the check posted at 9 am on my account, and I went to the bank to deposit my check. I was under the assumption that I would not get assessed because of what they had previously told me. So this AM, I checked my account balance, and I was nailed for $30. So I sent an e-mail to the bank stating that I was told I would not be assessed for this fee, and requested the overdraft fee be redeposited into my account.

The bank sent me a message back stating that they posted it on Friday. But how could they have posted it on Friday when it clearly said on my account that it was on Saturday.

I sent another message back, stating that this is a devious practice and I that I felt lied to by their own people, who had told me I would not have a fee assessed.
I would strongly encourage others to bank elsewhere. They couldn't even get my name right, despite the fact that I wrote my first and last name clearly on the e-mail. They don't care about customers.

If this was my fault, and I didn't cover the check the day it hit my account, fine. I'd pay the overdraft fee. However, I did and according to their own people I should not have been assessed that.

I have had other minor problems with this bank as well, including the fact that I was told by one teller that my debit card would work, and that the AVAILBLE balance was incorrect. I went to the grocery store to pick up some items, and was embarassed because my card was declined even though I had just made a deposit. So I had to go back to the bank where another teller was able to straighten everything out. So now, since I have so little faith in the tellers, (except the one that fixed everything), after I make a deposit, I go to the ATM in the lobby to assure that everything is correct.

Thank you for your time in reading this!
