Looks like I'm in for it now!

I recently had home phone service set up for the first time in many years, and immediately started receiving these crazy 1-800 number calls at all hours of the day and night. Though annoying, I ignored them and assumed they were solicitors.

My mother called me yesterday to say some rude woman from this company called her and threatened her if she didn't provide my contact information. My mother, of course, told her where she could sick her threats. When the woman hung up in her, she called them back, got the company name and Googled them. When she passed the info on to me, she suggested I do the same, and I ended up here.

First, let me say I am extremely glad I read every entry here regarding Portfolio, as I may have fallen unwittingly into one of their traps. I plan to use the great advice here to fight them.

I filed bankruptcy and it was discharged in 1998, and covered all my debts. I have since lived a "credit-free" life in order to avoid getting in that situation again. I have not spoken with these people and, therefore; do not know what debt they claim I owe.

My questions are these: 1) If my bankruptcy discharged all my debts (and I have all the ppwk to prove it), can they claim I still owe something? ; and 2) How can I find out what debt they are trying to collect and the amount without speaking to them?
