Vanderbilt Mortgage
Trying to Hold us responsible for property sold over a year ago! Please help us

Business & Finance

Our first house was a doublewide and two acres financed through Vanderbilt Mortgage. We later decided to sell the house. They said that it would cost $200 to transfer the note and we would be released from ALL financial liability. It could even get repo'ed and we would not be responsible.
$6000 and two years later, they finally get everything out of our name. We had to close on it four times and pay for two different title searches and three different title companies/lawyers because Vanderbilt kept losing paperwork, forgetting to file paperwork, whatever. Only last month we celebrated the one year anniversary of having the godawful thing out of our name.
Today I got a certified letter informing me that the loan is about to go into default and we will be responsible. When I called they said the land was still in our name. How is that possible when it was a land-home package and the entire loan and liabilities were transferred? They had even sent us a letter stating that we had no further financial obligation.
If we still own the land, then why on earth isn't the tax office trying to collect property taxes from us? Since I looked it up and the taxes are two years delinquent. And why haven't they contacted us until now? And why does it show on my credit report that the note is open (paid) or "terminated"?
Are they just using scare tactics? Please help us, I have anxiety problems anyway and I'm trying very hard right now not to have a panic attack. I can't tolerate dealing with them anymore. Can they really hold against us a house that hasn't been in our name for over a year? Help us.
