Online Banking System Posts Debits Late and Shows False Balance

The online system BB&T uses does not post debits and credits properly. The way the system is set up, you can never get an accurate bank balance. They claim they post when a vendor sends in the paperwork, however the bank I am with now posts debits in real time as transactions occur.

For example, my balance today is $500.00. I buy a product at a grocer (debit) for $100.00, and the system shows an available balance of $500.00. If I purchase another item the same day for $500.00, BB&T pays the item and charges a $70.00 overdraft fee, even though my account shows $500.00 available. Several days later they post the debit. The bank I am now with shows it as a pre-authorization of $100.00 and a balance of $400.00.

My direct deposit (government pension) is posted in the afternoon of the 1st, and any items that come in before the posting cause an overdraft. The deposit should be posted at midnight, not in the afternoon. This system is set up to confuse and mislead.

I complained and they blamed it on the vendors. Debits are automatic deductions from the account based on available funds, not when the vendor sends in the bill (these are debits, not credit card transactions). It is the same system when you go to an ATM: they deduct days later and show false available balances, even when you use their ATMs.
