Review Inquireries on Credit reports - protect yourself

I received the AFNI letter for a disconnected verizon phone on 7/3/07. I called AFNI. The phone was disconnected in 1994, they want $225.23. The customer service rep wanted to know when I would pay, started getting pushy. His name was Jerry. I had to hang up on him.

Immediately went online. Thank goodness for all the great people out there speading the word. As per feedback and instructions on the internet I wrote AFNI to verify information etc via certified mail. I contacted the FTC, BBB, the USPostal Inspection Service and the Attorney General in IL and NJ. I've already heard back via email from the BBB.

I ran my credit reports. I generally do this every 6 months. Sure enough AFNI, those bottom feeders, came up as "additional review inquirers" on 4. I called Transunion and spoke with a very informative rep. She confirmed AFNI was a collection agent but they had no right to "review" my credit as I am not doing business with them or since I dont have a judgement against me. She said she would see about removing it from my report even though "additional review inquirers" are only seen by me. I have excellent credit and plan to keep it that way.

I filed a "Fraud Alert" that TransUnion will send to Experian & Equifax... The three wise men.

My sister got her letter today, we're on to them.

Run your credit reports, call them, they can answer questions. Send your certified dispute to AFNI.

Be brave, and dont take any crap. Good luck, it will all work out.
