Resurgent Capital Services Fraudulent billing Ripoff

Both my wife and I received in the US mail a notice that we owed this company $1646.46 and that the original creditor was SEARS. We do not owe anybody that kind of money. They said that if we paid them $11532.92 they wold consider the bill paid in full. When I called them, they said that the bill was sent in error and they would follow up with a letter apologizing for the bill. I wonder how many senior citizens like my 95 year old mother-in-law would just pay this bill without asking any questions?
