Washington Mutual
Lost half of my deposit and charged multiple overdraft fees

Business & Finance

I've been banking with Washington Mutual for almost a year now, and I've had nothing but problems since day one. I've been charged overdraft fees when the funds were fully available and I've had checks returned when the funds were available. I talked several times with my branch and half of the time they would either say "sorry" and do nothing, or I would be issued ONE overdraft credit, (even though there were multiple overdraft fees), for a "computer error". No joke!

It seems that ever since I've stayed on top of this "computer error", I haven't had anymore problems for a while, until recently I had 1/2 of my deposit lost due to a "key-in error".

I called Washington Mutual Customer Service and explained to them my problem. The woman that I spoke with tried to dispute my claim because on my account showed that there were two deposits on my account on the same day - when in fact, I had made two deposits on separate days and they had processed on monday. For two different amounts. The key-in error was shown on my account a day after the deposit had gone though, which I thought was a little fishy.

Anyway, the woman was trying to persuade me that there was little or no hope that my deposit was ever made correctly and I explained to her that I had my receipts and then she immediately put me on hold.

When she got back on the phone, she explained that they would need to do an investigation and that it would take 5 business days. She then started questioning my logic over the deposit and I had to explain to her again that I waited tables, and that I knew exactly how much was put into my account, I even explained to her that I had put a few twenties, a couple tens and a bunch of ones in the envelope. I counted it out several times.

I also told her that I could understand if maybe I had received a counterfeit 50 dollar bill and I had tried to deposit it, but there was no such thing in my deposit.
She then put me on hold again.

When she came back, she didn't really seem of much help, she just told me to wait for the investigation report to come in the mail, which I haven't received yet and it's been a couple weeks!

This bank is a such a rip-off and it seems like they will nickel and dime you for all you got. My account has been in fairly good standing since I started up with them, and it's just been one mistake after another on their part and when it comes to fixing it, they would rather not. I have never had so many problems with such a simple checking account.
