Amsouth Bank is the biggest bunch of theives I have ever seen! I'm sick and tired of them jerking the clock and deposits around to get fee's. This time was the last straw and I'm not taking it lying down anymore.
I made a CASH deposit (Hard, Cold American greenbacks!) on friday after 2pm. I made the deposit at around 5pm. When I came home and checked my balances on the online banking which showed the funds of the deposit avaliable. I therefore, began to pay my bills on the online banking website because it told me the money was avaliable.
At 5:30pm I paid all my bills using their "totally free" online bill pay, like I have so many times before, since I had made the CASH deposit at 4:30pm and the funds were showing avaliable at the time I made those payments, but because I made the payments at 5:30pm and not 6:00pm on friday they considered those payments made before my deposit.

They couldn't ligitamently charge me an overdraft fee because I didn't overdraft anything. But come the following Wensday they had returned all of the payments I had made to my bills and charged me returned funds fee's totaling 216.00 dollars. Simply because of a half hour time difference. They insist that the CASH deposit I made did not cover anything that would of been paid out on Friday and since I had paid my bills a half hour before 6pm cut off time they considered that as being paid out friday and charged me the returned funds fees. Even though the payments I did make didn't show pending till the next day (Saturday). Not to mention the fees that I'm sure I'll have to pay to the companies for my money being returned.

They refuse to give back any of the fee's they charged me because they say it wasn't due to bank error, but mine because I made the bill payments before 6pm but after my cash deposit that didn't cover anything that was going to clear on friday because it was a CASH deposit made after 2pm and that any payments made on the online bill pay is considered the same day if made before 6pm (confused yet?). Even though I made other purchases friday with my check card and they cleared with no problem.

I hate this bank and they are nothing but sanctioned, crooked theives. Never use them and if you do make sure you have all the details of their maffia accounting and time tables down pat or they'll steal next weeks grocery money just like they stole mine.
