Harassing Phone Calls, Hang Up Calls, Attempts to gain SSN Ripoff

Business & Finance

I recieved 3 hang up calls, starting at 3am.

When I called back at a reasonable hour, I spoke to two males with heavy middle eastern accents and a female with possibly a german accent. They refused to tell me why they called unless I gave them my social security number. I refused, they hung up on me. I called back, same story, except this operator asked me my name, I refused and advised them that they had my phone number and they could easily find my name with a phone book. Again they hung up. I called back, a male yelled "What the f* do you want lady, are you crazy!" Then he hung up.

I called back 20 or so more times throughout the day, occasionally someone would actually answer the phone instead of hang up on the first ring. I was able to slowly extract the following: (I suspect none of this is true) company is based in Buffalo, NY, they have 200 employees (though the same 3 answer the phone) and are a collection company, they also advised multiple times that my number was not on their database and "they didn't call me". They continued to ask me for my reference number, after I explained at the opening of each call that I recieved 3 hang up calls. (no one spoke)

I refuse to give them any information, if they are calling me for any reason they should already have it. Since they don't, they must be be calling random, and THEY MUST BE SCAMMERS!

I unfortunately was given a phone number previously owned by professional deadbeats. I screened many many calls from legit collection agencies. Legit collection agencies know who they are calling and why, and identify themselves. They never ask for your social security number. Legit collection agencies also have legit telephone number. Not a Los Angeles landline that they claim is actually ringing in Buffalo. (Well could be routed to a foreign country, with call takers spaking with such heavy accents.) Legit collection agencies leave a number where they can be reached back, afterall the goal is to collect monies. This "company" just calls and hangs up. How is that going to help them collect monies? When I asked this question multiple times today, they once again hung up.

I convinced their scam is to frustrate you into provided them your social security number. From their it takes minutes to access your bank accounts, credit cards, etc.

My plan is to be more frustrating! I encourage others to do the same, fair is fair. Don't be an easy, innocent, victim. I believe the "rebuttal" posted encourages you to be just that.
