Foreclosure, inflated legal fees $20,000

I had the dream. I bought my 1st house. I made my 1st mistake going through a mortgage broker. 2nd mistake having OCWEN as my Mortgage lender. I was going through a divorce and got behind on 1, yes 1 mortgage payment. I called OCWEN to let them know what was going on. I was told not to worry about it and make the next payment as usual. So I did. I got my statement had was charged $50.00 late fee. I paid my normal mortgage payment plus extra to get the 1 that I couldnt pay caught up.

Needless to say, I was then turned over to a ruthless attorney who gave my NO options and said that the clock was just ticking down till the bank owned my home. Just a little FYI. I bout my home from a family memeber who sold it to me for 150,000 less than the market value. So that said, OCWEN knew my house appraised for 3 times more than what I owed.

The foreclosure proceedings started and I was told at that time, that unless I can come up with the amount that was in the rears (instead of a 1200. Mortgage payment, it turned into almost 20,000.including the foreclosure fees, and the attorney fees). I ended up have to file a chapter 13 to put a stay on the house, so they could not forclose on it. I ended up selling my home to get rid of the entire nightmare.

So here we are 5 years later... I cannot afford another home, since prices in CA are outragous. I have a foreclosure on my credit with a bankruptcy. I cant even get a descent credit card.

I consider myself a stable person, I have 2 masters degrees, and in the same job for over 7 years and make pretty good money and no other negative things on my credit, except for OCWEN and the mess that they caused!
