Inc fraudulent billing, something is fishy ripoff

After being a faithful subscriber to people magazine, I finally decided not to renew my subscription. Should have been that simple, check the "No thanks" box on the renewal card send it back, end of story. Not so, just recently I received a attempt to collect letter from North Shore advising me that I was delinquent on my People account (it has been 8 months since I terminated my subscription) and that $113.88 was to be paid or further action would be taken. I contacted People magazine and they stated that they would send a letter to North Shore advising them that I was not a customer and did not have any outstanding account. People Magazine was very helpful. Upon attempting to contact North Shore Agency, first I called the number listed at the top of the letter I received, after 20 minutes of getting a recording telling me all agents were busy I attempted to leave a voice mail (a recorded suggestion) after pressing 6 the phone for the voice mail rang for approx 5 minutes... Unbelievable. I got on the internet and located another number for North Shore, and after 3 rings, the phone was answered by a woman. I gave her my last name and City, she told me that "It was an attempt to collect a DEBT" I informed her that I had just spoke with a rep at People magazine and that they acknowledged that i had not renewed my subscription and that there was no active account. The woman cut me off stating" the account has been zeroed out" and then she hung up on me. Very strange that she wasn't interested in any information, other then my word that I talked to People magazine. If it was only that simple with all business interactions. After reading some of the other experiences with North Shore, I am convinced that the is something very questionable about the business practices of this company.
