Rodale/North Shore Agency: Magazine renewal scam.

I had a subscription to Runners World magazine last year. I did not take long before I realized I did not really like the magazine. I therefore filed all the renewal request they sent to me directly in the recycle bin. Last magazine should have been the December issue. To my surprise I just receive a rather threatening letter from North Shore Agency saying that I owed Rodale $21! Apparently Rodale took it upon themselves to renew my subscription!!!

As a matter of fact, I did receive a simple postcard at some point saying that they had enrolled me in their 'automatic renewal plan'. If I did not like that I had about 14 days to call an 800 number to opt out. Though I did not think they had any right to take any such action, I did call the number and opted out. However, it seems like they just ignored me and renewed my subscription anyway.

So now I have to deal with a collection agency... Over a simple magazine subscription; what a waste of time. Searches on the web confirms that this renewal scam is 'standard procedure' for Rodale/North Shore Agency. I would advise everyone to avoid any dealings with with Rodale.
