P. C being garnished don't think i owe as much as they say Oklahoma City

I was summoned in jan. Of 2007 that i owed 2,000 something dollars for a credit card i had with emerge visa. I don't recall it being that much before i stopped useing it and i don't recall them (emerge) ever contacting me about the debit. I did however write them a letter saying i did owe that company and that i would like to set a payment plan. However they never contacted me. So far they have garnished two of my checks i'm unsure of how they got my employer info. What exactally can i do even though they have started doing the garnishments of my checks? Any info is helpful. I've tried to contact them before i started getting my check garnished but was never ever able to reach any one on the phone always got avoice mail. At one point i was sending them something ever two weeks to every 1 week. Please help.
