Business & Finance

I am writing this complaint about Internet Speedway, Inc. Because I was charged a fee for a service I did not sign up for.

Internet Speedway is a company which claims to provide the customer with products and an online site builder to set up their own internet business. After a site has been built, the customer can choose what products he wants to offer on his site.

It was in October when I talked to an Internet Speedway representative on the phone who convinced me to buy their product. He claimed that everything would be totally free and that there would only be a shipping fee of $9.95, which I figured was not even justifiable, because shipping of a box that size and that weight should be below $4.00 if sent with UPS.

However, he told me that there are no additional costs besides shipping and that if not 100% satisfied with their product, I could simply send it back. He also said that I would be able to make money in the first 30 days. Well, with that information given I gave him my credit card information and all the necessary remaining information to make a payment of $9.95 for the shipping fee (date charged: 10/16/06).

When the package arrived, I saw some documents in it and a CD with a lead-through and plenty of so called success-stories. The CD led me right to a website where I could activate my product. Without any other information provided, I did so and browsed through the members area. I realized that the products offered by Internet Speedway are the exact same as on www.wholesalemarketer.com.

I am a student on a strict budget. After looking at the Internet Speedway program, I realized it would take an additional investment in order to make money and decided to stop my business with Internet Speedway.

Just a couple of days after that a member of the technical support team called me to check the status of my page and make some costly offers. His first name, I think, was Joshua. I told him that there is barely traffic on my site and that the business does not seem to run quite well. He first offered me a marketing package for thousands of dollars, which obviously I couldnt afford. Then, when I asked him if there are any alternatives to that, he said that an upgrade from 50 items offered on my site to 150 items offered would definitely increase traffic.

With that being said, I agreed to purchase an item upgrade from 50 items to 150 items for $50. He also told me to wait for about a month, because that is how long it would actually take to really notice an increase in traffic. Thinking that I just spoke to a professional and that he would never give me false advice, I agreed to the upgrade and was charged with $50 (date charged: 10/30/06).

After a reasonable period of time I took a look at my sites traffic again and noticed that my traffic was still as low as it was before the upgrade. When I received my bank statement at the end of November I noticed a charge of $69.99 (date charged: 11/15/06) from ISpeedway.

After that I called their member service and had to wait for about an hour until I got to speak to a young woman. The woman was very rude and constantly interrupted me to obviously prove her dominance over me. Those people seem to be trained and are probably prepared for those kinds of calls. She explained to me that I signed up for a 5 months contract with their company and that those charges will continue until I paid off a total of about $350 over the given period ($69.99/month). The reason for the charge was that I did not send the package back within 30 days.

Since she did not bother listening to me, I realized that this was a waste of time and gave it a last try. I explained to her that I have not been told that I will automatically be charged with a 5 months membership fee of $69.99 a month. Everything I heard in the radio advertisement was that the product is for free, as also said in the first conversation that I had with the representative of Internet Speedway. He never mentioned anything about a $69.99 fee.

Furthermore, he lied and told me that I would most likely make money within the first 30 days. When the member of the technical support of Internet Speedway gave me a call, he never mentioned that I would automatically fall into the 5 months contract while waiting one more month to see if an increase in traffic took place, as he advised me to. I am very certain that his intention was to make me wait long enough so my trial period would run out.

Besides, his advice for an item upgrade was also wrong traffic stayed the same. The lady on the phone said she would cancel my membership, but my account is still being charged. Before that I tried to cancel my account plenty of times via email, but I received either no response at all or a 2 line response which stated something completely irrelevant to my actual request.

I also joined an Internet Speedway chat one day to get advice on my website. The person I chatted with said there is nothing wrong with it and that I should just wait. Just simply wait. Not only did he not have the competence to talk about these kinds of matters, he also did not bother referring me to someone who could have really helped me out.

During my time with ISpeedway I encountered plenty of wrong advice, rudeness, and incompetence. If ISpeedway really helps so many people and if so many people really made so much money with their software, why cant they just refund my money since I cannot take advantage of their service? That already proves that there is something wrong with their terms & conditions.

Their service is not even worth the money: I get the exact same list of items at www.wholesalemarketer.com for a low monthly fee of less than $12.00 and no contract and I can get a free website built with yahoos storefront builder for absolutely no price.

But this is not my point here. I now have to pay $350 (which I do not have) for a contract that I did not sign, knowingly agree to, and have made several attempts to cancel.
