Ripoff interest just keeps adding up

I had 2 cards with this bank (Visa and MC), account opened in 2000 and 2001. They each had $500 limits, which were paid on time for several years.in I was no longer able to make the payments and stopped using the cards. Since then, they have continued to add interest on top of interest to the point where I now owe them over $2,000. I contacted them this year and was told if I paid them a portion of the balance, the account would be settled. I did this in February. Now my credit report shows 2 accounts; one "chargeoff", the other still owing over $2,000. They have also garnished my wages to pay this. Before doing this, they never contacted me to tell me or to straighten anything out. They not only rip you off, they lie to you!!
