Ripoff creeps harassing day and night LIARS

My husband had a providian credit card in 2000 for 500.00 we fell behind on our payments and called them to ask for a settlement, they agreed for 450.00 we had them debit our account for 50 dollars a week until paid off. We have reciepts.

When they filed bankrupt and sold to marriot they never reported as paid! Now almost six years later we have faxed over and over to their different collection agencys our proof and they tell us there is nothing that we can do because they are no longer providian and they want the account paid asap! How can they do this? When I question the legalalitys with these people they say it doesnt matter that we paid that amount we still need to pay marriot this amount which is now 1700.00!

Does anyone know of any class action lawsuits that are currently going on right now? This has to be illegal right? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
