Ripoff, adding fraudulent charges to my account

Back in 2000 I owed pac bell $513.00 on my account. My account was sent to american agencies, and now according to them I owe $991.00.

When I called them they weren't specific on why I owe more than the original amount. First they said that pac bell was still adding charges and that they were just representing the company. I don't know what to do.
