Business & Finance

In 2003 (I believe) my wife (now my ex wife) forged my name to a car loan in order to purchase a car for her daughter.in September we were divorced, but immediately prior to the divorce, she dumped the car (a 2000 VW Jetta) in my parking lot with a note that stated "it was my problem now, she couldn't afford it". I sought to sell the vehicle but found it impossible as interest rates for new vehicles were less than used - so I kept it and started making payments.

I was told by GMAC (almost immediately after taking on the car) that I was three months in arrears and to either pay them or lose the car. I paid them and became current. I then had to file bankruptcy because in the divorce, my ex wife stuck me with almost $50,000 of her bills which a judge was more than willing to let me pay.

I did not include the car in the bankruptcy so that I could pay it off and possibly buy another car in the future. At the time of the bankruptcy I called GMAC to find out what the payment amount was, where I needed to send the payments, and what the payoff was (I didn't have a payment book). I was given the payment address, the payment amount, and the number of payments left on the account (GMAC account # 084-0806-91866). I did not note the name of the woman I talked to.

I was told, at that time, I had 23 payments left of $323.23. I made those payments, one a month, until last month when I send them the last payment (#23 of 23). All of my payments were at least 323.23 with most of them being a slightly larger amount in hopes of paying it off sooner.

I called today, August 25, to find out how to go about getting the title to the car. I was told today by a Clinton A. (he refused to give me his last name) at phone # 651-367, that the payoff is now $1,438.27, or five payments of $343.33. When I explained all the above to him he asked if I was voluntarily turning in the car and that I would lose the money I had paid if I did so. I told him no, I wasn't turning in the car but I got stone walled when asking him why, when I was told one thing two years ago, that they had changed it. He told me something about a 0.50 cent a day charge that they had applied and that he had no record of any conversations prior to Dec. 2005 although he was apparently quoting from a conversation prior to that.

He quoted a woman I was able to contact last May and who told me something about $2,000.00 that I still owed and when I questioned her about it she said she would find out and call me back - which she never did.

I need help. I am jobless, homeless, and now these crooks (I would never recommend GMAC for ANY financing - they have been the most belligerent and difficult people I've ever dealt with in my life). I need to find out why they are piling on another $1,500 to a car that should have been paid off last month. And I'm sure, as I haven't made a payment THIS month, that they are looking to come take the car.

I would appreciate any help you can offer, and please, if you can, do it soon.

Thank you for your time;
