Chase Mastercard
Rewards Program Ripoff

Business & Finance

I had not been using my Chase Mastercard, but I left it open in the event I needed it.in June I received a statement showing that they had automatically enrolled me in their Rewards Program for a fee of $29. The statement indicated that I had 30 days to cancel if I did not want the program. After that I would have no recourse for a refund. I called and advised that I wanted to cancel. They assured me that they had cancelled my subscription.

In July I received another statement which showed that I had a previous balance of $29. (Rewards Program Fee) plus a late fee of $15. And a finance charge of $1. I called and they advised me that they my subscription was cancelled but they did not have enough time to reflect this in their system. They assured me that my enrollment had been cancelled and that the $29. Was credited to my account.

I waited till the next day and called their 24 hour help line. Sure enough the $29. Had been credited, but I still owed a late fee of $15. Plus $1. Finance Charge.

I contacted a live person and they advised me that they would make an exception and credit me for the late fee. To be safe and sure I asked for a letter to confirm this action.

Check your statement carefully. If I had ignored it and had not responded within 30 days I would have been stuck for this enrollment fee. I called two days later to cancel my card and of course they direct you to a specialist who tries to placate you. I told them that I was cancelling my card because I did not like their business practices.
