Ripoff crooks, liars

I was threatend with a lawsuit from asset to collect on a old debt they said they purchased from providian. Like a lot of people, i was scared and agreed to make payments. I sent them 300 dollars down and agreed to make 125 a month payments. I got laid of from my job after making about 5 payments, i called them and asked them to give me a little time to make my next payment, they said i had 3 days, i couldnt make it and they garneshed my wages.

I had no notice of a court date.
No chance to defend my actions, is this legal? Now that i am back to work, my wages are garneshed and i cant make ends meet any moore. Is there anything i can do? Also i noticed that as well as the garneshment being on my credit report, they also are showing up as a creitor for the providian loan that they are collecting for so this bad debt is on my credit report twice with differnt dates, is this legal? Can anybody help me?
