Ripoff Turns American Dream Into Katrina Nightmare

Immediately after hurricane Katrina, our mortgage was sold to HomEq Servicing (a division of Wachovia). Our home was heavily damaged by Katrina... When we finally got on the same page with the insurance company, the checks for repairs were sent to HomEq Servicing and to us. For several months, this money remained in limbo... We talked to people (you are passed from one person to another and another) and sent documentation and had our contractors send information. Finally, an attorney who has been helping people like us with Katrina claims, tried to talk with them. One morning, we spent 3 hours on a conference call with HomEq... Being passed from department to department and person to person. One of the HomEq representatives referred to us as "those people". The attroney wanted to know if she meant us specifically. She said that she meant those of us with hurricane claims because she had no way of knowing how the money would be spent.

Before the insurance/mortgage company nightmare, HomEq was hounding us for the 2 payments we were allowed to "defer". The woman at HomEq informed us that HomEq could take possession of our home. I asked her to send us a certified letter stating their intention. She said that "we don't send letters".

Finally, 8 months after the storm our home was repaired. HomEq fought us every step of the way. I didn't bother the attorney who helped us initially, because he was donating his time.

This company has a nightmare to deal with. The right hand does not know what the left hand is doing. They show bad faith and get away with it. Their reprentatives are rude, condescending, arrogant and just plain mean. Their attitude seems to be that those of us from Mississippi are a bunch of dumb rednecks.
