Ripoff dishonest billing

Backstory: I owed Circuit City $2020 back in 2002. National Credit Acceptance contacted me telling me I owe $4100 which includes lawyer fees and intrest that built up over the years. They were quick enough to tell me that they would settle for $2100 after some negoiating. I took a look at my credit report and it said that Circuit City wanted $2020. So NCA was off a bit because they told me I owed $2250 some odd dollars. Of coarse they are rude, fast talkers and threaten to "push the button" and sue me if I don't pay right away. They finally agreed to bring the total down to $2020.

So they sent a fax which only gives their numbers of what I owed and what Ill settle for. They will not send a "satifaction of judgement form" cause they said their is no judgement. What finally set off a RED FLAG was that they wont fax any kind of confirmation until after 30 DAYS after its been paid. That worries me.

I know these companies only pay as low as 1.5% on a debt so for mine they would of paid some $25 or probably me guess is around $500. What can I do to make sure these "salesmen" give me the proper documents so when I do pay it, my butt is covered from them ever coming after me again on this case?
