Ripoff

This past week I was given a check by my friend to cash at his bank, BB&T. I have done this for almost 3 years, he would issue me a check for buying family groceries or whatever.in the beginning he would just make this out for cash and it would be cashed. Then teller tells me I have to get him to make this out to me -this was no problem—informed friend and this was done.

Each time I went to this bank would give them my driver's license and check would be cashed—no questions asked. Last week on Thursday, May 4 I went to drive in window and proceeded to cash check that was given to me that morning. Check was made out to me as had been done since instructed. This time I was told there would be a $5 fee since I had no account with that bank.

This I do not understand, How can they charge for cashing check when person writing check has an account there? I informed friend of this.

He called bank for explanation, he told them HE had an account and could not understand why they are charging for checks he may write to others to cash. No real explaination was given, Other than bank personnel kept repeating that I had no acct there.

I could understand this if neither one of us had an account there, but to charge for withdrawing YOUR monies from YOUR account seems to me just a money maker.
Guess I will in the future use my friends CHECK CARD! Wonder when they are going to start charging for this, since I have no account with them.

Sounds like to me that BB&T is double dipping.

By the way my friend is changing banks. He has banked with them for 15-18 years.
