Cross Country Bank Harrasses Innocent Non-customers

I am not even a customer of this so called business. A man who I do not even know gave them my phone number as his phone number. He has done this with at least 2 other banks as well.

Now this company seeks him in regards to his account and when I tell them I do not know him and he does not live here, they intitially refused to remove my phone number stating only this individual could change it or I would have to send them a formal letter on "letterhead" verifying I am who I say I am.

The customer agent was rude and no help at all. I asked to speak to her supervisor. She informed me I could not speak to her supervisor since I was not a customer of the bank. If I am not a customer of the bank, why will she not remove my phone number?

She said I could have my number removed by sending this company a letter on "letterhead" verifying I am who I say I am. I asked her why should I do that, since it is not my problem they cannot find their deliquent customer.

I searched their website so I could find out who the CEO of this poor excuse of company is, but the website has no such information. I would like to file a complaint to the company about this "customer agent" but know it would go nowhere. I told this woman that I would in fact inform everyone I know of this company's practices and encourage them to take their business elsewhere. She told me that they have enough customers. Based on what Ihave read here today, I see that their customers or either duped into getting their credit cards or are the type of people who lie on their applications about their phone numbers.

I finally called another number at this company and another customer service agent said he would remove my number from the account. It is too bad he was not the first person I spoke to at this company. If I hear from this company again, he will not be the last.

Even though it seems my issue has been resolved, I would still like to file a complaint about this company with the FEC and plan to do so. While I understand the need for a company to collect money owed to them, I find it distasteful that a company would not seek to check with the phone company verifying the number when asked to do so by an innocent person who has no business dealings with that said company.
